A V-band is how you make an exhaust joint that comes apart. Two flanges, a clamp around the outside, and a connection that seals properly and can be undone with one bolt when the header or the cutout has to come off.

Two flange styles: flat mating flanges sit face to face and are the simpler joint, while male-to-female interlocking flanges locate into each other and hold alignment while you tighten the clamp, which is the one to have on a joint you will be taking apart often. Also here are the V-band to 3-bolt adapters for joining a V-band exhaust to a 3-bolt cutout flange.

Match the V-band size to the outside diameter of the pipe it is joining, and make sure both halves of the joint are the same style.
