Electric Exhaust Cutouts: How Granatelli Round Cutouts Work

An exhaust cutout, also called an exhaust dump or muffler cutout, is a valve in the exhaust between the headers and the mufflers. Closed, the exhaust runs through the mufflers like stock. Open, it exits through the cutout and turndown ahead of the mufflers for more sound and less restriction. An electric exhaust cutout opens and closes from a switch or wireless remote, so you control it from the driver's seat.

Over torque is caused by holding the activation switch too long which in turn can damage the internal gears of the drive system. Not to worry with the Granatelli system, as it has a built in circuit that prevents this from happening. Also included are 15 foot plug and play connections from the valve to the operating system. Best of all there is no special wiring or soldering operations required.

Oval Electric Exhaust Cutouts for More Ground Clearance

The Granatelli 3” Oval Electronic Cut Out System is a continuation of the already popular traditional style round Weld-In and Slip Fit systems that have been offered for sale for years by many of the largest automotive car and truck retailers. The Granatelli 3” Oval Systems offer many unique, one of a kind options, not existing by others in the segment.

One-Touch Open and Close Switch

Some exhaust cutout systems have an activation switch that must be held down to open and close the butterfly plates. That can lead to over torqueing the butterfly shaft, which can damage the internal gears of the drive system. The Granatelli exhaust cutout systems have a smart chip-controlled, one-touch switch to open and close the butterfly plates and prevent over torqueing.

45 Degree Turndowns

Granatelli Motor Sports includes 45 degree stainless steel turndowns in its kits. Using 45 degree turndowns lets you direct exhaust flow down towards the ground instead of straight out the side. This helps keep exhaust fumes out of the car.

High Flow with Extra Ground Clearance

Don’t have an oval exhaust system? The Granatelli systems can fit any 2.25 inch or larger round tube exhaust system. Since the cutouts measure just 2.25 inches tall, you now get the free flowing characteristics of three inch tubing while picking up a .75 inch of ground clearance

GMS Wireless Remote is designed to complement your Single or Dual Granatelli Electric Exhaust Cutout System. As a result, it works uniquely with Granatelli Exhaust Cutouts only. The remote control uses the same 1-Touch technology found in the standard mechanical switch and is intended to be a replacement. Now you can operate the function of your cutout remotely whether you are inside or outside of your vehicle. Works with most OEM Home-Link vehicle controls for a seamless integration.

An electric exhaust cutout opens and closes from a switch or wireless remote, so you never crawl under the car. A manual cutout is opened and closed by hand at the cutout. Compare them in Electronic or Manual Exhaust Cutout?

Match the cutout to the outside diameter of your exhaust pipe at the mounting point. Granatelli Motor Sports cutouts cover 2.25" to 4" round pipe, plus 3" oval. Use the exhaust cutout sizing guide to measure.

After the catalytic converters, at least 18 to 24 inches back and away from any O2 sensor, with the turndown aimed away from fuel and brake lines. Never install a cutout upstream of a catalytic converter. More in Where Should You Install an Exhaust Cutout?

When installed after the catalytic converter, a Granatelli electric exhaust cutout does not require a computer re-flash or custom tune.

Many states, including California, prohibit exhaust cutouts on vehicles driven on public roads. Keep the cutout closed on the street and open it only at sanctioned off-highway events.

Round cutouts match standard round exhaust pipe from 2.25" to 4". The Granatelli Motor Sports 3" oval electric cutout measures just 2.25" tall, so you keep the flow of 3" tubing while picking up about 0.75" of ground clearance. A slip-fit cutout clamps onto your existing pipe, so it is the easier choice if you don't weld. A weld-in cutout is welded into the exhaust for a permanent installation. Granatelli Motor Sports offers both styles in stainless and mild steel. Shop slip-fit electric cutouts or weld-in electric cutouts.

Some cutout systems make you hold the switch down to open or close the valve, which can over-torque the butterfly shaft and damage the drive gears. Granatelli electric cutouts use a smart-chip-controlled, one-touch rocker switch: tap it once and the motor fully opens or fully closes the valve, then stops on its own.

Kits include the cutout valve and motor, a rocker switch, plug-and-play wiring harnesses with 15-foot connections (no soldering), the hardware and gaskets, and polished stainless 45-degree turndowns that point exhaust toward the ground.
