Uses, sizes and finishes

What are Granatelli billet hose clamps intended for?

They are performance hose clamps available for select intake, intercooler and other compatible hose connections. Confirm hose outside diameter and the clamp's adjustment range.

What sizes do your billet hose clamps come in?

Select Granatelli billet clamp sizes cover approximately 1.50 to 4.25 inches. Choose by the actual hose outside diameter and the size range listed for the exact clamp. Browse every size in the billet hose clamp collection.

Are Granatelli billet clamps available in multiple colors?

Select sizes are offered in black, blue, red, gold or polished finishes. Check the exact product variant for current availability. See current finishes in the Granatelli Motor Sports billet hose clamp collection.

Can a billet clamp be used on intercooler couplers?

Yes, where its specified size, material and tightening method are appropriate for the coupler. Inspect the connection under operating conditions.

Can I use the same billet clamp on an intake coupler and a radiator hose?

Only if the specific clamp, hose material, diameter and operating conditions are compatible. Confirm the intended application and adjustment range first. For throttle body inlet and coupler questions, see the Throttle Body FAQ.

Is a billet hose clamp suitable for every fuel-system hose?

Do not assume so. Fuel-service components need materials and fittings specified for the fluid and operating pressure; use only a clamp explicitly rated for the application.

Can clamp color or finish tell me its allowable pressure?

No. Finish is an appearance option and does not establish operating pressure. Check the product's specifications and the hose and tube retention design.

Measuring and sizing

Should I order a clamp based on pipe diameter or hose outside diameter?

Measure the outside diameter of the hose after it is fitted over the pipe or fitting. The clamp must fit that assembled outside diameter. Our guide on how to measure for the correct billet hose clamp size walks through it.

How do I measure a silicone coupler for a clamp?

Install the coupler on its tube and measure its actual outside circumference or diameter at the intended clamp location. Compare this with the published minimum and maximum clamp size.

How do I measure the outside diameter of a silicone coupler for a billet clamp?

Measure the coupler's outer diameter at the actual clamping location with the mating tube installed. Select a clamp whose published adjustment range includes that measurement.

Does a clamp labeled 3 inches always fit a 3-inch aluminum tube with a thick coupler?

No. The clamp surrounds the outside of the hose, which is larger than the tube diameter. Measure the assembled coupler before selecting a size.

Why is a clamp's minimum diameter as important as its maximum diameter?

A clamp that cannot close sufficiently may remain loose even if its maximum opening is large enough. The assembled hose diameter must fall within the actual adjustment range.

How should I size a clamp when the hose wall thickness is unknown?

Measure the completed hose-on-tube outside diameter rather than calculating from the nominal tube size. Compare that measurement with the product's actual min/max range.

Can I use a clamp that is at the edge of its size range?

Use a size that fits within the published range and provides adequate adjustment after assembly. Avoid a clamp that bottoms out or cannot tighten evenly.

What information should I send for clamp sizing help?

Provide the hose outside diameter at the installed joint, hose material, tube diameter and a photo or part number of the clamp you are considering.

What information helps Granatelli select a clamp for a custom turbo intake?

Send the tube outside diameter, installed coupler outside diameter, hose material, available clearance and intended operating conditions.

Installation and tightening

Why should a coupler be fully seated before its billet clamp is tightened?

A partially inserted tube reduces sealing and retention area and may allow the joint to separate. Confirm insertion depth and alignment before tightening.

Should I position a clamp directly on top of a bead-rolled tube end?

Follow the coupler and clamp installation guidance; a clamp is generally positioned on the hose over the specified sealing area behind the retaining bead, not perched on an uneven edge.

How tight should I torque a Granatelli billet clamp?

Use the torque or tightening procedure specified for the exact clamp and hose. Over-tightening can damage the coupler or clamp hardware.

How do I avoid overtightening a billet clamp on a soft silicone hose?

Follow the clamp manufacturer's tightening specification and inspect the hose for distortion. More torque does not always improve sealing and can damage the coupler.

What clearance do I need around a billet hose clamp's hardware?

Leave sufficient room for the clamp body, tightening tool and nearby moving or hot components. Test fit before final pipe or coupler placement.

Do billet clamps replace hose beads or proper pipe preparation?

No. Adequate pipe retention, correct coupler sizing and clean sealing surfaces are still required.

Leaks, slipping and inspection

What should I check if a boosted coupler slips off despite a tight billet clamp?

Inspect tube insertion, bead retention, hose condition, oil contamination, clamp range and alignment. Correct the mechanical cause rather than simply tightening further.

Can an oily intercooler pipe reduce coupler grip?

Yes. Oil residue at the contact surfaces can reduce friction. Clean components with a hose-compatible method and address the source of unusual oil accumulation.

Can I use a billet hose clamp to compensate for the wrong coupler size?

No. Use a properly sized coupler and tube connection first. A clamp cannot reliably correct a large mismatch in hose or pipe diameter.

Can a billet clamp fix a damaged or split silicone coupler?

No. Replace split, hardened or badly abraded couplers. Tightening a clamp further can worsen the damage.

Should I place a billet clamp over the end of a torn hose?

No. Trim or replace the hose only where the hose manufacturer permits and where adequate insertion length remains; otherwise replace the coupler.

Can I stack two billet clamps to repair a leaking charge-pipe joint?

Do not treat extra clamps as a substitute for correct hose dimensions, insertion and retention. Diagnose the leaking connection and follow approved assembly guidance.

Why should I inspect hose clamps after the first boost test?

Pressure and temperature cycling can reveal coupler movement or installation issues. Let components cool and check alignment, retention and hardware as specified.

How do I inspect a billet clamp after repeated heat cycles?

With the system cooled and depressurized, look for loose or damaged hardware, hose cuts, clamp distortion and joint movement. Service the assembly according to the product instructions.
