Blow-Off Valves & Wastegates
44mm, 50mm & 60mm V-band wastegates and 50mm & 64mm billet blow-off valves from Granatelli Motor Sports.
Turbo Blow-Off Valves & External Wastegates for Boosted Builds
Every turbo system needs two kinds of pressure control. The wastegate works on the exhaust side: once your target boost is reached, it bypasses exhaust around the turbine so boost stops climbing. The blow-off valve (BOV) works on the intake side: when you lift off the throttle under boost, it dumps the trapped charge air so it doesn’t surge back through the compressor. Most turbo builds need both. Read Wastegate vs. Blow-Off Valve.
Granatelli Motor Sports external turbo wastegates come in 44mm, 50mm and 60mm, each offered in two designs: a water-cooled diaphragm gate for heat management close to hot exhaust parts, and a piston-actuated gate for builders who want piston-style boost control. Every gate mounts with V-band inlet and outlet and ships with flanges, clamps and a spring kit, so you can set base boost for your combination.
Our blow-off valves cover everything from street turbo cars to big-power drag builds: the 50mm 540200 with 6 and 15 psi springs, the 50mm Ultra High Flow 540201 with 0.625” valve lift, the 50mm Viper Series 540198 with adjustable spring preload, and the 64mm Anaconda 540199 for high-horsepower turbo and centrifugal-supercharged systems.
Wastegate spring pressure sets your mechanical base boost, so every Granatelli wastegate ships with a spring kit you can tune. Choose a bigger gate for large-frame turbos and high exhaust flow, where an undersized gate can contribute to boost creep. Choose a compact 44mm gate when packaging around the manifold is tight. See the wastegate sizing guide and the boost spring & PSI guide.
Not sure which size you need? Wastegate sizing depends on turbo size, engine displacement, exhaust flow, manifold design and target boost. Call our team in Oxnard at 1-805-486-6644 and we’ll help you spec it.

Wastegate FAQs
A wastegate controls boost by bypassing exhaust around the turbine once your target boost pressure is reached. An external wastegate mounts on the turbo manifold or exhaust ahead of the turbine and gives you more bypass capacity than most internal gates.
It depends on turbo size, engine displacement, exhaust flow, manifold design and target boost. A 44mm gate fits tight packaging and many street builds, 50mm sits in the middle, and 60mm is for large-frame turbos and high exhaust flow. Size it to your system’s flow rather than just picking the biggest. See the sizing guide.
Granatelli’s diaphragm wastegates (540244, 540202, 540259) use a water-cooled diaphragm housing to help manage actuator heat near hot exhaust parts. The piston wastegates (540261, 540203, 540260) use a mechanical piston instead of a flexible diaphragm, for builders who specifically want piston-style boost control. Both use V-band mounting.
Spring pressure sets the mechanical base boost, the lowest boost the system will run. Each Granatelli wastegate includes a spring kit so you can combine springs for your target. Read the boost spring & PSI guide.
BOV FAQs
When you lift off the throttle under boost, the compressed air in the charge pipe has nowhere to go. The blow-off valve opens and releases it so it doesn’t surge back through the turbo’s compressor, and throttle transitions stay clean.
The 50mm 540200 is the best value for most turbo street builds and includes 6 and 15 psi springs. The 50mm Ultra High Flow 540201 keeps the same size with 0.625” valve lift for more relief flow. The 50mm Viper 540198 adds adjustable spring preload. The 64mm Anaconda 540199 is for high-horsepower turbo and centrifugal-supercharged systems that need maximum relief capacity.
Granatelli BOVs vent to atmosphere. On mass-airflow (MAF) engine management, releasing metered air can affect drivability, so check with your tuner before installing.
No. A BOV protects the turbo and keeps throttle transitions clean; it doesn’t make power by itself. Boost control and tuning are where the power comes from.
Both FAQs
For most turbo builds, yes. The wastegate controls boost on the exhaust side and the BOV handles pressure on the intake side when the throttle closes. They do different jobs. Read the full comparison.
