The Granatelli 410101B 12-Volt Electric Brake Vacuum Pump Kit is an auxiliary electric vacuum pump for cars that provides supplemental vacuum for power brake boosters when engine vacuum is too low or inconsistent for dependable brake assist.

Designed for cammed vehicles, turbocharged and supercharged combinations, LS swaps, street rods and custom builds, the system automatically activates when vacuum drops and shuts itself off once the proper vacuum level is restored.

Low Engine Vacuum Can Reduce Brake Booster Assist

Cammed engines, forced-induction systems and certain modified engine combinations can produce less or less-consistent manifold vacuum, particularly at idle. The 410101B supplies vacuum independently of the engine to help maintain the vacuum reserve needed by a properly functioning power brake booster.

UNDERSTANDING THE 17–23 inHg RANGE

If It Cannot Reach or Hold Vacuum, Check the Entire System

The 410101B is designed to operate within approximately 17–23 inHg of vacuum. The pump should cycle as necessary to build and maintain vacuum within this range when connected to a properly sealed and functioning system.

If the system cannot reach or maintain the expected vacuum range, that does not automatically indicate a defective pump. Vacuum leaks, a leaking brake booster, faulty check valve, incorrect hose routing, loose fittings or other vehicle modifications can prevent the system from building or holding vacuum. Inspect the complete vacuum system before diagnosing the pump itself.

Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pump FAQ

What does an electric vacuum pump do on a car?
It supplies vacuum to the power brake booster independently of the engine. When a big cam, boost or an engine swap leaves too little vacuum at idle for consistent brake assist, the 410101B makes up the difference and shuts off once vacuum is restored.

Do I need a vacuum booster pump with a big cam?
If your engine no longer makes enough steady vacuum for your brake booster, especially at idle, a supplemental vacuum pump is the usual fix. Cammed engines are one of the most common applications for the 410101B.

How much vacuum will it hold?
The 410101B is designed to build and maintain approximately 17–23 inHg in a properly sealed system. Check the requirement for your brake booster, and inspect for leaks if the system cannot reach or hold that range.

Does the pump run all the time?
No. The MAVP sensor switches it on when vacuum drops and off once vacuum is restored.
