Collection: External Turbo Wastegates

Granatelli Motor Sports external turbo wastegates control boost by routing exhaust energy around the turbine once you reach your target pressure. Choose 44mm, 50mm or 60mm, in a piston-actuated or water-cooled diaphragm design. Every gate uses V-band mounting and comes with V-band flanges, clamps and a spring kit to set your boost. Designed, engineered and tested in Oxnard, California.

Compare Granatelli Wastegates

Size Piston-actuated Water-cooled diaphragm
44mm – compact gate for tight packaging 540261 540244
50mm – more bypass than a 44mm without stepping up to a 60mm 540203 540202
60mm – large-frame gate for big turbos that move a lot of exhaust 540260 540259

Piston vs. Water-Cooled Diaphragm Wastegates

  • Piston-actuated: uses a mechanical piston instead of a flexible diaphragm. Built for high-heat and sustained-load builds like diesel and race applications. Cast stainless steel base with a black anodized aluminum top cap.
  • Water-cooled diaphragm: a traditional diaphragm design with a water-cooled housing for thermal control, a good fit when the gate is mounted close to the turbo or manifold. Stainless steel base with a black anodized billet aluminum top cap.

Wastegate FAQ

What size wastegate do I need?

It depends on your turbocharger size, engine displacement, exhaust flow, manifold design and target boost. As a starting point, the 44mm suits compact setups, the 50mm adds bypass capacity, and the 60mm is for big turbos. Read our full 44mm vs. 50mm vs. 60mm wastegate sizing guide, or call us at 1-805-486-6644 and we'll help you match the gate to your build.

Should I choose a piston or diaphragm wastegate?

Pick piston actuation for high-heat, sustained-load builds such as diesel and race cars. Pick a water-cooled diaphragm gate when it mounts close to the turbo or manifold and you want water-cooled thermal control.

What comes with a Granatelli wastegate?

V-band flanges, clamps and a spring kit for setting boost pressure.

Do I need a wastegate and a blow-off valve?

They do different jobs: the wastegate controls boost on the exhaust side, while a blow-off valve releases pressure on the intake side when the throttle closes. Most turbo builds use both. Read Wastegate vs. Blow-Off Valve, or shop Granatelli blow-off valves.

Granatelli boost-control history: our wastegate work goes back to the early-1960s Novi IndyCar engines, and a Granatelli wastegate helped Mario Andretti win the 1969 Indianapolis 500.
